Since the first time I was taken to Daegu, I have surprisingly been to Korea four
times in less than a year and a half. The frequency is so high that it has even scared
me. However, before, I would just wander between Daegu and Busan, so coming to
the capital Seoul is actually my first time.

This time, I traveled with someone Shop's staff tour group to Seoul. Apart from
the lively atmosphere due to the large number of people, this trip was special
because our tour leader was the owner of the New Mapo Seagull Taiwan Store.
As a result, the alcohol enthusiasts among us had the opportunity to experience
the most authentic Korean drinking culture. Drinking is a significant part of
Korean culture, regardless of gender. As long as they are of legal drinking age,
almost everyone enjoys having a few drinks together. On my multiple visits to
Korea, besides the must-try authentic Korean cuisine and fried chicken, I personally
highly recommend trying the pork trotters, which are a delicious Korean dish.

This restaurant, "뜸부기 황금족발" (Tteumbugi Golden Pig's Feet), is
located just behind the hotel where we are staying in Seoul. We didn't
intentionally look for the restaurant, we just randomly chose a place to
sit along the street, and unexpectedly stumbled upon a great restaurant.

Although Koreans don't use Chinese characters (Hanja) as frequently as Japanese
people do, since Korean language originated as an extension of Chinese, you can
still find many instances of traditional Chinese characters in various places. In fact,
before the Korean language evolved into its current version, the ancient kingdom
of Joseon used traditional Chinese characters.

In Korea, most stores are small and the space is not very large. The store we
went to is where real locals would go, so inside the store, you would see tables
occupied by people who look like office workers coming here after work to
order a pork trotter dish and have a couple of drinks.

The menu is displayed on the wall in the restaurant, and what's considerate is
that perhaps because the shop is located near Myeongdong, there are more
tourists, so the menu also includes Chinese translations. It's quite convenient
for Taiwanese people to order.

When dining in Korea, it is customary for restaurants to serve small side dishes
called "banchan" before ordering the main meal. Since these side dishes are
counted per person and the portion sizes of the main dishes are usually substantial,
it can be inconvenient to dine alone at some traditional restaurants. However,
in response to the growing trend of solo dining worldwide, many restaurants in
Korea have now introduced single-serving meals. People can now have a better
understanding of this option.

Local onions in Korea are delicious, fragrant, not spicy, and become even
more refreshing when marinated in sauce.
One of my favorite side dishes in Korea is also the cold mixed chives, and this
restaurant's spicy dried radish is also quite good.

Korea's unique shrimp paste, known as "saeujeot," has almost different recipes
in every restaurant, which makes dining in Korea a fascinating experience.

The shop provides free mung bean sprout soup, and I personally love eating
bean sprouts. However, after finishing the bean sprouts, I wanted to have more,
but the boss only gave me soup.

Pork trotters (KRW 32,000 for small, KRW 37,000 for large) - Actually, the
first time I visited Daegu, I had takeout braised pork trotters from a restaurant,
and I must say the taste was absolutely fantastic. In fact, the preparation of
these pork trotters is somewhat similar to our Taiwanese Wanluan-style braised
pork trotters, where the whole front trotter is cooked in a sauce. Afterward, it is
cooled and sliced with the bone for serving to customers at the table.

I have found that Korean pork is actually quite delicious. It doesn't have a strong,
gamey taste. The pork skin is crispy and enjoyable to chew, and it has a great
flavor even when eaten on its own. It doesn't feel greasy either.

I originally thought that "Golden Pig's Trotters" was just a dish name, but I
didn't expect that when the pig's trotters are served, they are actually sprinkled
with edible gold leaf. It truly lives up to its name as "Golden Pig's Trotters"!

Pork Steamed Buns (Small ₩32,000, Large ₩37,000)

Braised pork belly without skin is cooked in a special braising liquid until
tender and succulent. Although it resembles the Taiwanese dish "garlic mashed
pork," the taste is quite different. According to local friends, it seems that coffee
is included as an ingredient in the braising liquid used to make this dish. It truly
challenges my personal cooking logic.

Since it's cabbage wrapped in meat, besides eating it directly dipped in sauce,
another popular way to enjoy it is by wrapping it with the homemade kimchi
provided by the restaurant. It's definitely a must-try when visiting Korea. I had
a great time there because every restaurant had delicious kimchi, and each had
its own unique flavor. It truly brought me joy as a kimchi lover.

A group of three to five good friends gathered and, amidst sipping on some
alcohol, unknowingly polished off the food in front of them. Are they full?
Of course not, because most Korean restaurants only serve a single dish.
To try something else, let's move on to the next place together!
