今年是閏月,所以秋天來得比較晚。最近不用開冷氣睡覺,終於有一點點冬天的感覺囉。天一冷相信大家就會想吃鍋,但吃火鍋總得呼朋引伴一大堆人才能開鍋好麻煩,這時候像我這種沒朋友的人,迷你小火鍋就是我的最佳良伴!
Because it's a leap month this year, autumn arrived late. Recently, I haven't needed the AC to sleep, finally feeling a hint of winter. When it gets cold, everyone craves hot pot. But organizing a big group for hot pot is troublesome. For someone like me with "no friends," a mini personal hot pot is the best companion!

這是一家我常常早上經過,但是從來沒有吃過的店。理由其實很簡單,因為我都是去早市買菜進公司,啊人家下午三點才開,當然吃不到。不過也因為這樣,讓我對招牌寫著「原民生市場巷子口老擔」這家店,一直非常的好奇。
This is a shop I often pass by in the morning but have never eaten at. The reason is simple: I’m usually heading to the morning market to buy ingredients for my office, but this place doesn’t open until 3 PM. Because of this, I’ve always been curious about this "Old Stall from Minsheng Market Alley" as stated on their sign.
民生市場在哪邊呢?其實這個從日治時代就存在,後來稱公有復興零售市場,在民國79年一場大火燒毀後已不復存在。也許這家店,就是在那次大火後搬到現址的吧?店裡賣的東西很簡單,就是肉圓跟三種口味的湯品,每天下午3:30開始營業4個半小時,禮拜天不營業喔。
Where was Minsheng Market? It existed since the Japanese colonial era and was later called the Fuxing Public Retail Market. It ceased to exist after a major fire in 1990. I suspect this shop moved to its current location after that fire. The menu is simple: meatballs (Ba-Wan) and three types of soup. It opens daily at 3:30 PM for only four and a half hours, and it's closed on Sundays.
肉圓(30元):這價位在台中市區簡直便宜到不行。內餡是筍丁跟五香肉泥,採用胛心肉製作。皮是台中特有的風格,番薯粉比例較高,所以吃起來比彰化的更Q,雖然飽足感沒那麼重,但我從小就愛這種Q度。醬料味道協調,上桌會加香菜,個人覺得肉圓就是要配香菜才對味!
Meatball (Ba-Wan, 30 NTD): This price is incredibly cheap for downtown Taichung. The filling consists of diced bamboo shoots and five-spice seasoned pork, typically using pork shoulder. The skin is the unique Taichung style with a higher proportion of sweet potato starch, making it chewier than the Changhua version. I've preferred this chewy texture since childhood. The sauce is well-balanced, and it comes with cilantro—which I believe is essential for Ba-Wan!
丸仔湯(20元):魚丸口感算脆,魚漿紮實。湯頭是古早味大骨湯加芹菜提香。豬血湯(20元):台中這邊的豬血只要新鮮就好吃,搭配酸菜末喝起來又是另一種風味。一顆肉圓加兩碗湯,吃完七分飽剛剛好。
Fish Ball Soup (20 NTD): The fish balls have a nice crunch and are made with quality fish paste. The broth is a traditional pork bone style with fragrant celery. Pig Blood Soup (20 NTD): Fresh pig blood is always a treat in Taichung. This one is paired with pickled mustard greens for a different flavor profile. One Ba-Wan and two bowls of soup make for a perfectly satisfying snack.
