With consecutive holidays and constant rain, I felt like I was about to grow mold just staying at home. This couldn't go on, so this homebody decided to go out for a stroll at SM NORTH EDSA in Quezon City.

SM NORTH EDSA

This is considered one of the larger malls in the SM system, consisting of three or four buildings, with what looks like new construction nearby. Since it was a holiday, the entrance was already packed with people ("People Mountain People Sea"). There are so many people in the Philippines; on holidays, it feels like everyone is out. I wanted to take a picture of the overwhelming crowd, but it was too squeezed, and I was afraid of getting trampled if I stood still, so I gave up and found a quieter spot for a quick photo.
Healthy Shabu-Shabu

After wandering around, it was time to eat. The restaurants in this mall are a bit more upscale. Being alone, I wanted something light, so I headed to "Healthy Shabu-Shabu," which I had noticed on my last visit. This place emphasizes US Beef, so the price range is mid-to-high; average locals might not afford it often. However, business is great—it was a full house with people waiting outside! I ordered a Beef and Shrimp pot, an extra seafood platter, and a beer. It cost me about 1000 NTD. Honestly, quite expensive. I kept hypnotizing myself that it would cost about the same in Taiwan. It's a rare outing, so just being happy is enough. Paying some "tuition fee" is expected when living abroad!

The beef slices were paper-thin, and there were only four of them. But honestly, this is the best beef I've eaten in the Philippines so far. The shrimps in the set were all large and very fresh.

As for the extra seafood platter, everything was decent except for the fish slices. The veggie platter looked very similar to what we have in Taiwan.

Conclusion:
1. The sauce was the failure point. The taste was weird and overpowered the natural sweetness. Next time, I'll bring my own Kikkoman soy sauce since they already provide green onions, garlic, chili, and satay sauce.
2. Maybe scarcity creates value? Without competition, there's no comparison. In Taiwan, hotpot shops are everywhere, competing on ingredients and broth, which benefits consumers with high-quality food at good prices. However, Taiwan can't beat the Philippines when it comes to the quality of seafood—it's truly excellent.
I ate 10 shrimps yesterday, a quantity usually seen at wedding banquets. So, for the sake of the ingredients, I will visit again. Hahaha~ Lowering standards a bit while abroad makes life happier!
