If you love raw stir-fried squid, friends living in downtown Taichung should know, or have at least heard of, this hidden gem. Even if you haven't heard of it, you might have seen my previous introduction to this small stall that only operates 4 days a month!
That's right, this raw stir-fried squid thick soup stall, located opposite the Feng Kang Supermarket on Chengdu Road, only sets up here on Saturday nights. It has been operating like this for over 20 years. Because it's only open one day a week, sometimes when I suddenly crave it, it's either too late or already Sunday. So, you really need a bit of destiny to eat here!

It's been a while since my last visit. This time, I noticed the squid thick soup has gone up to 70 NTD a bowl. It can't be helped; if you buy groceries, you know how much prices have soared in recent years, especially for ingredients like squid. The shop has to reflect the costs in their prices. Think it's too expensive? Well, you can choose not to eat it, and it won't cost a thing! XD
I arrived around 9 PM. The fried noodles were already sold out, leaving only fried rice noodles. The dining area looks like this; even past peak hours, customers kept coming in.

Squid Thick Soup (70 NTD): It's really not a big bowl. When it's first served, first-timers will definitely think it's expensive. However, when you dip your spoon in, you'll understand where the value lies. Though small, almost half the bowl is filled with squid.
The squid is cut generously, almost just halved. The texture is crisp and bouncy, and the freshness is quite good. While wholesale prices are lower, if we bought this amount of squid at a supermarket, it would cost around 40 NTD. So, selling it for 70 NTD is quite reasonable; thinking it's expensive shows a lack of understanding of ingredient costs.
I've been eating here since my military days, over 15 years ago. Over such a long time, the taste has inevitably changed a bit, but overall, it's still good. Perhaps serving it in a styrofoam bowl diminishes its perceived value. If this same soup were served in a ceramic bowl, I believe people wouldn't even complain if it cost 100 NTD. Try it and see!
