大甲溪橫貫台灣中部,由西部清水區出海。不論是民生用水、發電、觀
光、農牧漁等等事業,皆與這條溪息息相關。而在921不幸因為路基大量
崩塌、加上後來地質一直不穩定不得不放棄修護的中橫公路,在我小時
候可是西部跟東部互相聯絡的重要道路,那時去梨山都不用繞道合歡山。
台灣的大甲溪從中部穿越而過,最後流入清水區的大海中。這條河流和許
多產業息息相關,包括生活用水、發電、觀光、農業、畜牧和漁業等等。
可惜的是,因為921大地震引起的大規模山崩和持續不斷的地質不穩定,
迫使中橫公路不得不荒廢。我小時候,這條公路是台灣西部和東部之間的
重要通道,我們可以直接到達梨山,而不必繞過合歡山。
這家店的肉包採純手工製作,假日觀光客多的時候會有限量購買機制,無

The Dajia River traverses the central part of Taiwan and flows out to sea
from the western district of QingShui. It is closely related to various
industries such as domestic water supply, power generation, tourism,
agriculture, animal usbandry and fishing. Unfortunately, due to massive
landslides on the roadbed caused by the 921 earthquake, as well as the
ongoing geological instability, the cross-island highway (Zhongheng Highway)
had to be abandoned. When I was young, it was an important route
connecting the western and eastern parts of Taiwan, and we could
travel to Lishan without detouring through Hehuan Mountain.
既然是交通要道,路上一定免不了出現許多地方特產或是有名小吃,今天帶
大家來的這家白冷肉包,就是位於台8線天倫電廠旁,很有人氣的手工肉包小
店。對了,講到這些深山裡的發電廠都跟枝仔冰棒脫離不了關係,沒錯,其
實這邊的白冷冰棒也很有名,但老闆不同人啦!
Since it is a major transportation route, there are inevitably many local
specialties or famous snacks along the way. Today, I'm taking you to this
popular handmade pork bun shop called "Bai Leng Rou Bao", which is
located next to the Tianlun Power Plant on Provincial Highway 8 in Taiwan.
By the way, speaking of power plants in these remote mountains, they are
also closely related to "Zhi Zi Bing", a famous local popsicle, but the owner
of this shop is different!
這家店的肉包採純手工製作,假日觀光客多的時候會有限量購買機制,無
非是想讓慕名而來的遊客大家都能嚐到。除了肉包之外,店裡還有供應手
工客家肉粽,因為這邊居民好像客家人挺多的,只是當天我到的時候已經
賣光了。另外還有供應各類饅頭跟現磨豆漿,感覺也都挺不錯的樣子。
This shop's pork buns are made purely by hand, and there is a limited
purchase mechanism during peak tourist seasons to ensure that all visitors
who come for their reputation can taste them. In addition to pork buns, the
shop also serves handmade Hakka meat dumplings because there seem to
be quite a few Hakka people living in this area. However, they were already
sold out when I arrived. They also offer various steamed buns and freshly
ground soy milk, which all seem to be good choices.
這邊有一個很讓我這老台中認同的事情,那店家外面價目表旁的這張剪
報,上面說明我們台中人吃包子加辣醬都是"要用注射的"!! 沒錯,在台中,
把辣醬注入包子裡可能會讓其他地方的人感到不可思議,但在這裡這是一
種受歡迎且美味的吃法。幸運的是,沒有證據表明這種吃包子的方法對健
康有害,而台中居民的腎臟問題發生率也不比其他地區顯著高。因此,
這只是一種有趣和獨特的美食傳統,當地人和遊客都可以享受!
Here's something that I, as a resident of Taichung, can relate to. There's a
newspaper clipping hanging next to the price list outside a shop, which
explains that when Taichung locals eat baozi (steamed buns), they always
use an injection method to add chili sauce!Yes, exactly! Injecting chili sauce
into baozi may seem unusual to people from other regions, but it's a popular
and tasty way of enjoying this dish in Taichung. Fortunately, there is no
evidence to suggest that this method of eating baozi is harmful to health,
and the incidence of kidney problems among Taichung residents is not
significantly higher than in other regions. So, it's just a fun and unique
culinary tradition that locals and visitors alike can enjoy!
因為還加上包子等出籠的關係,記得印象中好像排隊排了約莫15~20分鐘
左右才換我買包子。這天雖然是假日,但因為當時新冠疫情才稍趨緩,
所以並沒有往常禮拜六下午那種人山人海的景象。也因為遊客不是爆炸多
狀態,所以今天買包子都沒有限量隨便你買~
Because of the newly released steamed buns and other items, I remember
waiting in line for around 15 to 20 minutes before it was my turn to buy
the buns. Although it was a holiday, the COVID-19 pandemic had only recently abated, so there weren't as many people as on a typical Saturday afternoon. Moreover, since there weren't an excessive number of tourists, there was
no limit on the quantity of buns one could purchase today.
白冷肉包一顆35元價位不算低,不過個頭還挺大,白白胖胖看起來就很
想咬一口。
The pork bun costs 35 NTD per piece, which is not considered cheap, but
its size is quite large and chubby, making it look very tempting to take a bite.
這個包子的餡料是豬肉和筍子,口味濃郁。早期可能是為了滿足附近勞工
需要補充大量鹽分以及增加食慾,所以口味偏鹹。此外,這個包子特別之
處在於使用厚切筍絲作為餡料,而不是常見的筍丁或薄切筍絲。我認為這
樣包進包子中增加了口感的層次和風味,讓這個包子越吃越刷嘴喔~
The filling of the baozi consists of pork and bamboo shoots, and I find the
flavor to be quite strong. It was likely intended to satisfy the taste buds of
nearby laborers who needed a lot of salt in their bodies and to stimulate their appetites, resulting in a slightly salty taste. Additionally, what sets this baozi
apart is the use of thickly sliced bamboo shoot shreds in the filling, rather
than the small diced or thin shredded bamboo shoots commonly found in
other meat buns. I believe that incorporating these bamboo shoots into the
baozi provides an added layer of texture and flavor, making the baozi even
more irresistible as you eat it.
