大甲溪橫貫台灣中部，由西部清水區出海。不論是民生用水、發電、觀
光、農牧漁等等事業，皆與這條溪息息相關。而在921不幸因為路基大量
崩塌、加上後來地質一直不穩定不得不放棄修護的中橫公路，在我小時
候可是西部跟東部互相聯絡的重要道路，那時去梨山都不用繞道合歡山。
台灣的大甲溪從中部穿越而過，最後流入清水區的大海中。這條河流和許
多產業息息相關，包括生活用水、發電、觀光、農業、畜牧和漁業等等。
可惜的是，因為921大地震引起的大規模山崩和持續不斷的地質不穩定，
迫使中橫公路不得不荒廢。我小時候，這條公路是台灣西部和東部之間的
重要通道，我們可以直接到達梨山，而不必繞過合歡山。

The Dajia River traverses the central part of Taiwan and flows out to sea
from the western district of QingShui. It is closely related to various
industries such as domestic water supply, power generation, tourism,
agriculture, animal usbandry and fishing. Unfortunately, due to massive
landslides on the roadbed caused by the 921 earthquake, as well as the
ongoing geological instability, the cross-island highway (Zhongheng Highway)
had to be abandoned. When I was young, it was an important route
connecting the western and eastern parts of Taiwan, and we could
travel to Lishan without detouring through Hehuan Mountain.
