I know putting my own photo as the cover image is usually box-office poison for clicks. But to prove that this was the first time in my life I received birthday wishes from strangers in Japan, I have to sacrifice my image and hurt your eyes a little. Please focus your attention on the bottom left of the screen.

Due to work, my birthday happened to fall during my trip to Tokyo this year. Since it was my first time celebrating a birthday abroad (outside of the Philippines), I naturally wanted to find a place to have a few drinks and enjoy myself. Wandering around the streets often leads to stumbling upon great shops by chance. The place I'm introducing today, Teppen Shibuya Onna Dojo, was one of my biggest discoveries in Tokyo this time.

There are so many yakiniku restaurants and izakayas in Shibuya that I didn't know which one to choose at first. Wandering into a small alley, I found this place, "Teppen Shibuya Onna Dojo," which seemed nice, so I stopped at the entrance to observe.

The shop operates as a typical izakaya, selling common items like skewers, side dishes, and fried foods. And most importantly, they definitely sell alcohol! It opens every day at 5 PM and stays open until midnight.

You have to take off your shoes when entering the restaurant. Although it's a bit inconvenient, I think this is one of the ways Japanese shops keep the interior clean. Personally, I don't really like taking off my shoes outside of my own home, but "when in Rome, do as the Romans do." Adapting to local customs is also part of a joyful journey, don't you think?

The grill is located right at the entrance. Although the smoke is quite heavy, their ventilation system is excellent, so you don't feel the smoke drifting inside the enclosed space.

Let's focus back on Shibuya. I felt very relaxed as soon as I entered the shop. The Japanese girl who greeted us at the door was extremely friendly, which was a plus, but the overall atmosphere and the connections between people felt warm and genuine.

Besides the counter seats (Kaburi), there are also tables for 4-6 people, suitable for gatherings. Even though it was a Tuesday, the place was nearly full. It seems this shop has a solid base of regular customers.

My friend "Chai Zu Da Ren," who is studying in Japan, and my good brother in Tokyo, Mr. Tiger, joined me for my birthday. Yes, just a gathering of three men.

The first page of the menu features various sours and Japanese teas. Perhaps because there are many foreign tourists in Shibuya, the staff aren't afraid to serve foreigners, and the menu has English translations, making ordering easy.

Since it's an izakaya, the subsequent pages list various beers, shochu, and sake. Being in Japan, one must drink the freshest local draft beer. Especially Yebisu draft beer, which is super expensive in Taiwan, costs only 580 yen for 500cc here. You'd be a fool not to drink it! Waiter~ bring the alcohol quickly!

Shortly after the drinks arrived, we each received this appetizer. Handmade tofu topped with small fish and salmon roe. It tasted cold, refreshing, and full of sea flavor.

Refill! Did you notice something different? You've never seen latte art on beer, have you? Hahaha~ For every refill, the staff changed the design, which was super thoughtful. I observed that if they messed up the art, they would pour out the whole glass and start over. The Japanese craftsman spirit is deeply ingrained. The point is, no one required them to do beer art!
[English]Jellyfish with Yuzu Pepper Ponzu: A Japanese-style jellyfish salad marinated with yuzu pepper and citrus vinegar. A strong-flavored cold dish perfect for drinking. Chicken Skin Ponzu: Marinated chicken skin with homemade citrus vinegar. The sour and salty taste goes well with alcohol. The citrus aroma cuts through the grease of the chicken skin. It's quite salty on its own, so one portion is enough for several drinks!
[English]Earth Salad: A variety of vegetables served with a special apple dressing. Refreshing yet rich. Grand Meat Cutlet (Black Menchi-katsu): Limited daily supply. Minced beef mixed with vegetables and onions, fried until golden and crispy. It's juicy inside, so be careful not to burn your mouth!
[English]Assorted Skewers (8 skewers): You can choose the contents of this set yourself. Skewers are essential in a Japanese izakaya. There's really no better food to pair with alcohol than grilled meat, right?

The three meat rolls are Enoki mushroom roll, Green onion roll, and Tomato roll. Any domestic pork you eat in Japan is delicious. The other plate has grilled chicken skin on the left, something like the "oyster" meat (sot-l'y-laisse) in the middle, and chicken liver on the right. All three were delicious.

This one is the Wasabi Chicken Tenderloin. The secret to its deliciousness is that the inside is slightly rare (medium-rare).

Although this was a celebration for a girl at the next table who shared my birthday, I felt infected by the happy atmosphere. Later, I told the staff it was my birthday too, and they treated me to the grilled bamboo shoots I ordered! So generous!

This is the girl who greeted us at the entrance. Her enthusiasm convinced us to come in. She was also the one leading the birthday celebration in the video. Even though she was busy, she always had a smile on her face.

Suddenly, this appeared in front of me!!! (Surprise) The bamboo shoots were just an appetizer. The staff secretly prepared this personalized dessert plate for me. I almost cried on the spot! I really love the vibe of the staff here; it felt like genuine hospitality. SO SWEET...

SO SWEET...
[English]Jumbo Draft Beer (1500 yen): Since it was last call, I ordered a 1-liter draft beer. They drew a big heart on it! This shop really made me happy. I will definitely come back next time I'm in Tokyo. About the name "Onna Dojo" (Female Dojo)? It's because the staff are mostly women. There's a sister shop nearby called "Otoko Dojo" (Male Dojo) with all male staff.
It's a highly recommended shop. We three ate and drank a lot for only about 13,000 yen (less than 4,000 NTD). Hard to believe this is Shibuya, Tokyo. What can you get for 4,000 NTD in a Taiwanese izakaya? Why is Taiwan so expensive?
