When you visit Shenji New Village in Taichung, besides exploring the creative cultural shops and soaking in the artistic atmosphere, you absolutely cannot miss the hidden gourmet gems in the alleys! This time, I want to recommend "Sanbi Ramen," a spot that has been generating a lot of buzz on social media recently. Known for its rich tonkotsu (pork bone) broth and the incredibly generous service of unlimited free noodle refills, this shop has quickly captured the hearts of many ramen lovers. Imagine enjoying a piping hot bowl of rich, savory ramen on a cool evening, topped with tender chashu pork and fresh green onions—it's truly one of life's great pleasures! Even better, this delicious bowl of ramen costs only NT$135, making it an absolute blessing for budget-conscious foodies and students! If you're looking for high CP value ramen in Taichung, "Sanbi Ramen" is definitely your top choice.

Nowadays, every time I visit Macau, crossing the border to Zhuhai for a meal has become a routine. Today, I'm taking you to try something I missed during my last trip in late March: Northeastern Roasted Lamb Leg. Zhuhai's Xiawan area is packed with barbecue restaurants, showcasing a diverse and thriving ecosystem. Traditional charcoal barbecue is down-to-earth and a top choice for neighborhood gatherings. Regional specialties like Northeastern roasted lamb leg and Xinjiang barbecue offer new flavor experiences. Modern barbecue shops innovate in decor and dishes to attract younger crowds. Barbecue joints are widespread, from night markets to residential areas, and the intense competition drives shops to constantly improve their ingredients, flavors, and service. The place I'm introducing today, Xin Meng Feng Qing Northeastern Roasted Lamb Leg, is a legend and a leader in this field. I heard this shop has never advertised, and its location is at the end of an alley, not on a main road, yet business is booming. Let's see what makes this place so special!
When you come to Nanzi, Kaohsiung, you simply cannot miss the legendary "Grandma's 25 NTD Sausage with Sticky Rice"! In this era of soaring prices, finding such an incredibly affordable traditional snack is nothing short of a miracle. The stall is located at the intersection of Lane 1, Nanzi Road. It's a seemingly inconspicuous corner that always gathers foodies drawn by the aroma. I remember when I was little, every time I came to Kaohsiung with the adults, we would always eat a set of sausage with sticky rice in Nanzi. This time, while riding my scooter around the island, the memory suddenly flooded back. I checked the map, and to my surprise, I found this amazing hidden gem of a local shop!
It's not common to find 24-hour brightly lit turkey rice restaurants in Taichung, offering a warm comfort to those returning home late. However, this particular establishment's "fame" comes not only from its delicious food available at any time but also from the occasional "intense scenes" that unfold within its walls, which have made it quite well-known.
Macau, a city famous for its Portuguese egg tarts, boasts numerous local brands and shops, making its egg tart market highly competitive and mature. For tourists visiting Macau, savoring a freshly baked Portuguese egg tart has become an essential part of their itinerary. In recent years, the well-known Portuguese brand Manteigaria has also joined this grand occasion, bringing a Portuguese egg tart closer to its original flavor to Macau. The arrival of Manteigaria has not only enriched the choices of egg tarts in Macau but also provided consumers with the opportunity to compare the differences between the local Macau flavor and the authentic Portuguese custard tart, adding more possibilities to the city's culinary journey.
This "MANTEIGARIA," with its light yellow as the main color, is a Portuguese egg tart specialty store from Portugal. From the large store name on the shop sign and the Portuguese inscription "Fábrica de Pastéis de Nata" — Portuguese Egg Tart Factory — you can feel their confidence in their egg tarts. The store features a bright and simple design, complemented by freshly baked Portuguese tarts neatly arranged in the display window, attracting passing customers to get a glimpse of this delicious treat originating from Lisbon.

The factory was established in Chiado in 2014, housed in a building dating back to 1900. Currently, besides Portugal, it has also expanded to France, Spain, and other places. The Macau branch is the only one in Asia, allowing everyone to taste the most authentic Portuguese egg tarts without having to travel thousands of miles to Europe.

The business hours are from 8 AM to 8 PM, 365 days a year.

Not only does this store's brand originate from Portugal, but even their head baker, whom you see in the photo, is from Portugal. Overall, just as described on their official website, the staff are very friendly to customers, frequently checking if they are enjoying their food.
The term "Manteigaria" in Portuguese is related to "butter" or "cream," which also suggests their emphasis on butter in the making of their Portuguese tarts. The process of making the Portuguese tarts on-site is clearly visible for customers to freely observe, which is also a special feature of the store particularly emphasized on their official website.
A single Portuguese egg tart costs MOP 12, which is about NT$50. Compared to a KFC egg tart in Taiwan at its original price of NT$47, Macau is actually cheaper.
When eating at the store, there is sugar and cinnamon powder available on the table for customers to add according to their preference. Before I went, my Macau friend repeatedly instructed me to definitely add cinnamon powder to eat it, saying that it tastes even better.
I've actually never had an egg tart with cinnamon powder like this before. The egg fragrance of the custard combined with the faint aroma of cinnamon powder really tastes quite good.
The filling mainly consists of egg yolks, sugar, fresh cream, and milk. A characteristic feature is the appearance of irregular caramelized spots on the surface after high-temperature baking, giving it a unique caramelized aroma. The filling has a rich and smooth texture, is not overly sweet, and carries a strong egg and milk fragrance. The flavor, in my opinion, is quite similar to our Taiwanese egg tarts, not as sweet, and the addition of cinnamon powder really enhances the layers of flavor. Don't forget to try it when you go!

Who says night markets are only for snacks? 🌶️ Oyster omelets, stinky tofu, Taiwanese meatballs... these are all classics of Miaodong Night Market. But did you know? Hidden in this bustling Taiwanese flavor is a mouthwatering Japanese oden spot! The contrast is surprising, isn't it? Today, let me show you another side of Miaodong Night Market!
When this "Half Lobster Ramen" was served, I was instantly conquered by its visual shock! 🦞💰 The bright colors, bold plating, and the price of MOP 65 seemed to declare: "This is the boldness of Macau cuisine!" This time, let me take you through the lens to carefully appreciate this mouth-watering ramen.
Amidst the quest for authentic flavors in Macau, the captivating allure of a caramelized red hue is often indispensable. Tucked away in Travessa da Cordidaria, Fan Gei Siu Laap is the creator of this very color. Every midday, this unassuming eatery becomes permeated with an irresistible aroma, drawing a continuous stream of eager diners, all longing for a taste of its soul-stirring charcoal-roasted delights.
In the bustling area of Taichung's Qinmei commercial district, at 100 Gongyi Road, there's a hidden gem called "Hao Pin Xiao Chi," a place that feels like a journey through time. It's not just a place that offers authentic Taiwanese snacks, but a nostalgic space where people can find warmth and relaxation in the midst of a busy urban life.
There's a recent trend of people lining up at fish markets late at night for sashimi. Honestly, it's not necessarily more cost-effective and it's a waste of time. Traditional markets like Jianguo and Second Market also sell sashimi, and the prices are comparable to those at the fish market. Furthermore, almost all twilight markets have it, although the pricing can be inconsistent. Currently, the vendors at Beiping Twilight Market offer the most value. If you miss those times, you can consider supermarkets or seafood specialty stores. Actually, the sashimi at Ayu Sushi is also a good option.
In today's metropolitan areas, finding beef noodles for NT$100 or less seems like a near impossible dream, especially in the city's core. Previously, to find beef noodles at this price point, I had to travel to Daya to eat at Daya Beef Noodles. However, since recently moving to the Shuǐnǎn area, I've discovered quite a few beef noodle places.
The one I'm introducing today was actually stumbled upon a few days ago while browsing an online forum—though the original post was about dumplings!
This restaurant is located on Section 2 of Chang'an Road in Xitun District, with the larger intersection of Henan Road nearby. During meal times, the restaurant is always packed.
A friendly reminder to everyone: whether you're ordering takeout or dining in, remember to queue up first and don't rush to place your order verbally. Otherwise, you might end up with an "attitude" dispute. Be patient, even though you're hungry. Letting your mood sour will ruin even the most delicious meal. It's not that the staff are necessarily rude; they're just probably very busy and a bit less friendly.
I opted for takeout this time, but I didn't eat it right away. Instead, I bought it at noon and reheated the soup in the microwave around 11 PM for a late-night snack. Surprisingly, even after half a day, it was still delicious after reheating, almost like a pre-packaged meal in terms of quality. Of course, it's still advisable to consume food as soon as possible after purchasing it, as there are always potential hygiene concerns with leftovers.
That's right, their small bowl of beef noodles is only NT$100. And considering their location in the bustling commercial area near Wen-Hua Senior High School, a prime district in Taichung's Xitun District, that price is truly a steal!
Even though a bowl is only NT$100, each one comes with 4-5 chunks of thick-cut braised beef. And I'm not exaggerating, the amount of meat surpasses many bowls priced at NT$120, and the thickness is truly impressive. While the texture isn't melt-in-your-mouth tender, it's still above average, as they use beef shank.
The soup is made by simmering a variety of spices with beef bones. The broth itself is relatively clear, without much oil, resulting in a rich yet refreshing braised beef soup. Their beef noodles don't come with greens, but the restaurant provides complimentary pickled mustard greens for unlimited helpings. The pickled mustard greens are stir-fried by the restaurant, with a slightly spicy but not sweet flavor, which adds a richer layer of complexity to the beef broth.
The noodles used look very similar to udon, but they have a bit more chewiness than udon noodles. Even when soaked in the soup for a while, they don't fall apart. Actually, for takeout orders meant to be eaten immediately, the soup and noodles can be packed together.
Actually, I learned about this place after seeing a post about Taipei's legendary old dumpling shop, Jing's Dumplings. The second-generation owner didn't continue the family business in the north, but instead came to Taichung to develop it. That shop is the Old Brand Shandong Dumplings and Beef Noodles that I'm introducing today.
What's truly impressive about them is their chive dumplings. I heard they're incredibly large and cheap (only NT$7 each, very generous). After trying their beef noodles and finding the taste to my liking, I'm planning to try their dumplings next time. I wonder if I'll get full after just five of them?
